4 Tradespeople Tips to Help You Stay Healthy

As a tradesperson, you probably get quite a bit of exercise during the day. But this isn’t enough to stay healthy – what you eat, drink and do in your spare time all make a big difference. And if you have days when you spend a long time driving or doing paperwork, getting your lifestyle right is even more important.

If you struggle to feel or look good, keep reading to find out 4 tradespeople tips to help you stay healthy.

1. Aim for a high-energy diet

The quality of your diet can make a big difference to how much energy you have and how you feel. Make sure you eat a protein-rich diet with plenty of different fruits and vegetables. This will help you build up muscle mass and avoid storing fat.

You should also make sure that your diet contains sufficient carbohydrates to give you plenty of energy throughout the day. Match the amount that you eat with how much physical activity you do so if you have a particularly quiet week you don’t end up overeating.

Avoid food with high levels of sugar and saturated fat – these won’t help to improve your health and will only give you very short-term energy. If you’re tempted to snack on these foods during the day, make sure you have lots of fruit and low-sugar cereal bars to graze on instead.

2. Drink plenty of water

This is a really common piece of advice, but there’s a good reason for that. Keeping hydrated throughout the day will replenish your energy levels and help you stay healthy. Do this even if it’s cold or you’re not particularly active one day; it’ll still make you feel good.

Avoid sugary soft or sports drinks – water is better for you and won’t end up giving you a sugar crash.

3. Look after yourself

If you want to stay healthy, you need to make sure you look after yourself. Working your body 24/7 won’t do it any good – you should give it time to rest and recuperate too. Get plenty of sleep to give your muscles time to develop and repair. Being well-rested will also reduce any cravings you get for sugary snacks and help you stay on track with your diet.

It’s also important to listen to your body and try to resolve any aches and pains you get. Ignored problems can get worse and could even lead to you not being able to do your job. Minor problems can be treated with a hot bath or massage. But if you’re experiencing any chronic or long-term aches and pains, make sure you see a doctor ASAP.

4. Plan ahead

If you want to help yourself follow the tips above and stay healthy, planning ahead is really important. If you think you’re going to struggle to keep to a high-energy diet, write a meal plan for the week and a shopping list for when you go to the supermarket. Or if you struggle to get enough sleep during the week, make your lunch and pack your bag the night before so you can have an extra half an hour in bed in the morning.
